Australian Shark & Ray Centre Port Stephens

The Australian Shark and Ray Centre, Port Stephens, invites you to meet and greet amazing sharks and rays in a one-on-one experience like no other. Hand feed sharks, rays, seahorses, eels and fish. Fighter World

Fighter World is the "Home of the Hornet".  See fighter aircraft and engines, aircraft models, weapons, watch FA-18 hornets and BAE Hawk take off and land from an excellent observation deck, hop in a jet aircraft cockpit. Experience first-hand the day to day operations of an active Fighter Base. Guided tours and hands-on experiences unlike any other Australian aviation museum. Fun for the whole family.

Oakvale Farm and Fauna World, Port Stephens

Spend a day at Oakvale Farm and Fauna World - situated on 21 acres of natural bushland. Experience life on a real farm! 

Get up close and personal with cuddly farm animals and a wide array of Australian wildlife. Experience 150 different species of native and farm animals while you feed, pat and walk with the animals.

Don't miss the Reptile Ravine Exhibit featuring over 25 species of reptiles including snakes, lizards, crocodiles and turtles

Tilligerry Habitat Reserve

Visit Tilligerry Habitat Reserve to see koalas in their natural habitat. Take an easy loop walk (1.8kms or 1 hour) on boardwalk, sand or gravel tracks, visit the Environmental & Information Centre.  Take a self-guided walk or guided walks are available at 10.30 and 2pm by arrangement. Enjoy views over Tanilba Bay, see bush tucker, native nursery, arts and crafts.

Nelson Head Lighthouse & Reserve, Nelson Bay

Lighthouse Cottage: The historic lighthouse keeper's cottage offers visitors beautiful views, local history, information on marine rescue and light refreshments in its welcoming tearooms.

Tanilba House, Tanilba Bay

Built in 1831 by Lt. Caswell using convict labour, Tanilba House is one of the oldest historical homes in Australia. The house is located at Caswell Crescent, Tanilba Bay, just 25 minutes from Nelson Bay. Open for groups of 15 or more. Booking essential. Telephone 02-4982-4866.

Hunter Region Botanic Gardens

The Hunter Region Botanic Gardens cover an area of 140 hectares. The gardens feature easy walking paths of variable lengths, themed gardens and special events (Children's Discovery Day, Spring Fair, etc) when you can enjoy live music, devonshire teas, kids entertainment. There are two wetlands that can be viewed from observation platforms.

Be sure to visit the Kookaburra Cafe for devonshire tea or light lunches. The gift shop and Visitors Centre is also worth a visit. Guided tours available on weekends.

The Gardens are located on the Pacific Highway, Heatherbrae - 4km north of the Hexham Bridge between Newcastle and Raymond Terrace. Opening times are 9am to 4pm, 7 days.

Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia

The Hunter Wetlands Centre is a haven for wildlife and people. Discover over 250 wildlife species located throughout the 45 hectare site whilst also enjoying walking trails, guided tours, canoeing, dipnetting, feeding talks, birdwatching, children’s discovery playground. Visit the excellent Nourish Cafe or use the picnic and BBQ facilities. Check out the seasonal and activity program. Open hours are 9am to 5pm, 7 days.

Hunter Wetlands Centre is located at Shortland, 10 minutes from Newcastle.

Toboggan Hill Park

A fun day out for the whole family. Tobogganing, indoor rock climbing, mini golf, jumping castle, electronic games, tractor train, giant maze, remote controlled cars and boats, plaster painting.
