The are many choices of water activities - waterskiing, sailing, cruising, fishing, snorkelling, surfing, patrolled beaches, swimming, diving, boat hire, kayaking, fishing, fishing charters, golf, lawn bowls, dolphin & whale watching, arts/crafts, sand dunes safaris on quad bikes, ferry trips to Tea Gardens (a fantastic experience), cafes, restaurants, hotels, camel riding, Hunter Valley vineyard tours.
Also, a visit to Port Stephens is not complete without experiencing the incredible 30 km stretch of sand dunes and beach of Stockton Beach via Anna Bay. Enjoy by 4wd, horse, camel, by foot, or even a quad bike. There are also 4 golf courses for the enthusiast, bushwalks & numerous dog friendly beaches and parks.
Getting There:
From Sydney: Distance 220kms; approx 2.5hrs drive North from Sydney via F3 Freeway. At the end of the Freeway, turn right at the roundabout, following the sign 'Hexham & Pacific Highway' (BP Service station and Hungry Jacks will be on your next left). The road will veer to the right and merge with the New England Highway after which you should merge to the left lane following the sign 'Taree & Pacific Highway', which will direct you over the Hexham bridge. Travel 1km then take the right turn onto Tomago Road. You are still a good 45 minutes away. Continue towards the roundabout intersecting Nelson Bay Road, turn left and follow Nelson Bay Road to Nelson Bay. Continue through Nelson Bay past the marina following the signs to 'Shoal Bay' onto Shoal Bay Road. Pass the RSL Club on your left, then turn left at the roundabout into Gowrie Ave and left into the Admiral - Welcome! By bus: Port Stephens Coaches run two services a day to Nelson Bay departing Eddy Avenue Central Station Sydney at 8.15am and 2pm and stopping along the way. They leave for Sydney at 9am and 4.10pm daily. Air: Flights are arriving and departing daily to and from Newcastle Airport at Williamtown(25mins drive to Nelson Bay) from Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Coolangatta, NSW North Coast (Taree, Port Macquarie, and Coffs Harbour). The Airport now hosts a great range of airlines such as Virgin Blue, Jetstar, Aeropelican, Brindabella, and Qantaslink. Port Stephens Coaches run a regular service between the Airport and Nelson Bay. Rail: CityLink/CountryLink provides services in and out of Newcastle from all over New South Wales. Port Stephens Coaches provide a pick up service from Newcastle Station to Nelson Bay on a regular basis. Hire Cars: Available from Newcastle Airport and Nelson Bay. The Shuttle Man now operates a door to door transfer 7 days a week.
